I have spent years claiming to not be a runner, despite having run several 5k’s, 10k’s, and marathons. I too have spent years claiming “I’m not a designer.” Regardless of the college course (undergrad and grad), military course, and my own personal dabbling.
Both arguments, I must say, are falling flat.
Just last week I was explaining a major design principle and why she should change the flow of the ad she was working on. She was receptive to the coaching and the whole ad changed and became pleasant to look at, because deign principles matter.
Just because I’m not the best (in my mind) at something, doesn’t mean I can’t be that. What it really means is, I am that and I need to embrace and dive deeper into being that.

Through the journey of graduate school, studying Interactive Media and Communication I have learned is;
1. I’m not one dimensional
2. Creativity needs to be nurtured
3. Practice sharpens skills
4. Teacher, Professors, and Advisors are all just fancy ways of coaching
` 5. It’s never too late to make and reach new goals and dreams
I asked ChatGPT to give me a motivational quote about my fifth takeaway, “Age is not a finish line but a vantage point. Every year lived gives you more strength, wisdom, and clarity to pursue what matters most. Dreams don’t expire, and passion doesn’t fade unless you let it. You’re never too old to begin again, to chase something that lights you up, or to step into a new chapter with courage. The only thing grows old is the belief that it’s too late.”
My life has had several curveballs thrown and through all the adversity I’ve come away with respect for the process. Outline, draft, write, draw, rewrite, re-draw, re-rewrite, proof read, re-re-rewrite, submit, and probably rewrite again. But seriously, the process has taught me to adventure into all forms of media, not just where I was comfortable. I’ve grown and will continue to grow as a Multimedia Specialist.
